Know Your Rights in Various Situations

As immigration enforcement ramps up under the second Trump Administration, it is of vital importance that you know the rights that you have in case you encounter an agent from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The U.S. Constitution protects all people residing in the United States, regardless of immigration status. Whether or not you are undocumented, you should be aware of the rights and protections that are afforded to you.

Based on the situation in which you encounter an ICE agent, you have certain rights. The following resources were prepared by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) regarding the rights that you have in case you encounter in various locations and situations.

You can also download this card, print it out, and hand it to a police or ICE officer to indicate that you are exercising your constitutional rights.

At Work

If ICE (immigration officers) come to your work, they generally must have a search warrant or the consent of your employer to search non-public areas. If ICE approaches you, you have rights that protect you.
